No Rest for the Wicked

Today was a "rest" day, and since I got no rest, I must be wicked.

Started early with getting Max to the Vet for an ultrasound which showed a foreign body bowel obstruction in his lower small intestine, looked straightforward. He was in surgery by noon. It was much more extensive than we anticipated, turned out he also had intestinal torsion as well as multiple obstructions throughout the small intestine. At one point they called me to tell me it was very bad and they didn't think he would survive, it looked like a large amount of intestine was not getting blood. But, when the Vet found the twisted section and released it, the blood returned to the affected area. He was in surgery for nearly 4 hours. Then we had to pack him up and I transported him to the Emergency Clinic where he will spend the weekend being treated and monitored. The next 48 hours will be critical. My best boy Max is in Intensive Care.

This is Max upon arrival at the Emergency Clinic:

Not much food today!
Larabar in AM
Scrambled eggs and naval orange around noon
Larabar in PM
Small romaine salad with turkey and olive oil, lemon, and honey dressing
I'm having some wine now! Wish I hadn't thrown out those potato chips!

Anybody doing CFE's on Sunday? I could sure use one!

  2. I'm so sorry about Max! I hope he feels better soon--I bet he will now that the vets have that stuff out of his system. Bruiser wishes him to get well soon too! So hard with dogs--they're our children!!!
